Introductory
My first portfolio work was created to be sent to colleges during 2020-2021. During this time I was obsessed with old Hollywood movies and was deeply insecure with how I looked. I wanted clothes and the look of Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina. I felt like an ugly duckling only to find out through reasearch that during Audrey’s upbringing she too felt ugly because the beauty standards swayed toward curvaceous woman. In these findings I began to research more on beauty standards and the idea of the “IT” girl. I found women like Brooke Shields, Kate Moss, Marilyn Monroe, and Jackie Kennedy, all of whom were idealized for their beauty, but within were deeply self-concious. I wanted to create a collection with the inspiration of models attributing a beauty standard, idealized by millions for their looks, but within only feeling self-loathing. These feelings could be associated to modern woman and social media. Now girls idealize people they know on social media instead of idealizing Hollywood stars which is even more worrisome.
